Strengthening agriculture through innovation, growth, and international collaboration
The Dutch Ambassador to Suriname, Henk van der Zwan, paid an informal visit this week to ZuDo Tropical Fruits N.V., a company specializing in the cultivation and processing of soursop into pulp and juice.
The Ambassador and his partner were impressed by the well-maintained plantation and the modest yet professional production facility. During the visit, they also observed a live demonstration of drone-assisted fertilization, showcasing the company’s use of modern agricultural technology.
ZuDo explained that the company is currently in a key development phase, which is essential for its long-term growth. At present, ZuDo manages approximately 3,000 soursop trees and is actively expanding its plantation. As a result, the daily harvest of fresh soursop is expected to increase significantly in the near future.
The domestic market has already become insufficient to absorb the projected volumes, making export expansion necessary. ZuDo has commenced exports to Aruba and is actively exploring additional international markets to further scale its operations.
On February 10, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZOTI) conducted a working visit to Zudo Tropical Fruits, an agricultural company that successfully benefits from support through the SURGE program.
The company collaborates with other farmers (outgrowers) on a joint sour sop plantation of approximately 6,000 trees. In addition to cultivation, Zudo Tropical Fruits also focuses on processing fruit into pulp, thereby adding significant value within the agricultural value chain.
Within the SURGE framework, the company received a grant worth USD 250,000 aimed at strengthening production, processing, and operational efficiency. Of particular importance is that Zudo Tropical Fruits not only strengthens its own operations but also actively collaborates with outgrowers within the broader value chain. This approach integrates local farmers into the production process, facilitates knowledge sharing, and creates wider economic opportunities within the sector.
